About the Qualification

 

Childcare Apprenticeships – if you love working with children and wish to gain a recognised qualification to reflect this, completing a Childcare Apprenticeship is the perfect solution. Whether you are brand new to Childcare or an experienced manager, we have a qualification to suit you and your ambitions.

We also offer built in add-on training courses to the programmes! Should you or your employees require Safeguarding or the mandatory Paediatric First Aid Training, we are available to come to you at a location, date and time most suited to your needs.

 

Available frameworks

Level 2 – Intermediate Apprenticeship for the Children and Young People’s Workforce
      As part of the Intermediate Apprenticeship, you’ll achieve the following qualifications:
  1. Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Children and Young People’s Workforce
  2. Level 1 Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT
  3. Level 2 Award in Employment Responsibilities and Rights in Health, Social Care or Children and Young People’s Settings

Training for this Apprenticeship is based around a combination of mandatory and optional units. We’ll help you put together the right mix of units to fit the job you do and the way you want to develop your career.

Mandatory units:
  • Child and young person development
  • Contribute to the support of child and young person development
  • Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
  • Contribute to children and young people’s health and safety
  • Contribute to the support of positive environments for children and young people
  • Understand partnership working in services for children and young people
  • Support children and young people’s positive behavior
  • Introduction to communication in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
  • Introduction to personal development in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
  • Introduction to equality and inclusion in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
  • Maintain and support relationships with children and young people
Optional units:
  • Contribute to the support of children’s communication, language and literacy
  • Contribute to the support of children’s creative development
  • Understand child and young person development
  • Promote child and young person development
  • Understand how to safeguard the wellbeing of children and young people
  • Support children and young people’s health and safety
  • Develop positive relationship with children, young people and others involved in their care
  • Working together for the benefit of children and young people
  • Understand how to support positive outcomes for children and young people
  • Understand the needs of children and young people who are vulnerable and experiencing poverty and disadvantage
  • Support the creativity of children and young people
  • Understand the speech, language and communication needs of children and young people with behavioural, social and emotional difficulties
  • Support children and young people with disabilities and special educational needs
  • Support children and young people’s play and leisure
  • Support children and young people at meal or snack times
  • Introduction to duty of care in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
Please note:

There are no formal entry requirements but you will need to have a basic level of English and Maths. If you already hold Functional Skills Level 1 qualifications or GCSEs, you may be exempted from the Functional Skills element of the programme – your Assessor will be able to help you with this.
This Apprenticeship is available in England only.

Level 3 – Advanced Apprenticeship for the Children and Young People’s Workforce (Early Years Educator)
      As part of the Advanced Apprenticeship, you’ll achieve the following qualifications:
  1. Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Children’s Learning and Development (Early Years Educator)
  2. Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT
  3. Level 2 Award in Employment Responsibilities and Rights in Health, Social Care or Children and Young People’s Settings

Training for this Apprenticeship is based around 17 mandatory units. We’ll help you put together the evidence required for each unit fitting in with the job you do and the way you want to develop your career.

Mandatory units:
  • Understand child development
  • Support the holistic development of children
  • Safeguarding and child protection in early years
  • Promote the health, safety and welfare of young children
  • Support the health, wellbeing and physical care needs of children in early years settings
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion in early years settings
  • Support positive behaviour in children
  • Support children with additional support needs
  • Support attachment when working with children in early years settings
  • Support children through transitions
  • Plan, lead and evaluate purposeful play activities to support children’s learning and development
  • Support the development of reading, literacy and mathematical skills in early years settings
  • Extending children’s learning and thinking in early years settings
  • Assessment and observation in early years settings
  • Recording, storing, reporting and sharing information in early years settings
  • Working in partnership with colleagues, professionals and key individuals in early years settings
  • Continuing professional development in early years education
